It isn’t really news to anyone that the world economy has had a hard time since 2008.
But you wouldn’t think that if you only watched the evening news.
Economic news has turned from being about educating the public about the trajectory of the economy to one giant, depressing human interest story.
Here an example that cuts to the heart of it.
We used to be a country of people interested in numbers, because we knew that numbers have implications for people’s lives.
Now we seem uninterested in numbers because we are constantly looking for a tear jerking story as if life followed a script from a Hollywood production.
But that’s now how life works. If we want to make better decisions as people, we need to have better information.
We need to want to dog into numbers. If not, we get from our news what we want: another sad story.
